Forgotten Forest Tutorial
In this tutorial we will discuss how we created these grass, leaves and what things need to think or remember when creating a forest like this.
After the full configuration of the bundle, the next step it is the conversion to polygons, you have to make sure that the conversion is set to quads. For this, go to the shape configuration and set them to Output Quads.
After that, you can change the paint fx to polygons just going to Modify->convert, remember that you can always make more variations after the conversion. If you change your basic shape you are going to change the polygons also, if you want to remove the influence, delete the history to remove completely, or duplicate the bundle to make a copy and new adjustments.
Look for the modify option on the maya UI
Look for select to polygons and configure as your need.
Paint effects to polygons
Wait for the paint effects to convert, review the face count its important if over 10 k maybe you can adjust.
Adjust for the next bundle
Now you can adjust the main bundle to make another variation
After this process you can make your next bundle just changing the values of the originals strokes.
Make sure that you save your bundles without any history and only the mesh, with the material configuration, because we are going to use them as a library to import on the complex scene. Also make sure that you use a correct group and naming for this part, if not the scene can get to messy.
Also, each group have to be on the center of the grid, and the pivot at the 0 coord, also you should save them with not translate, not rotate and the default scale to 1. If your group doesn’t have that attributes, use a freeze transformations.
After the conversion to polygons, we are going to use a plugin to randomize the uv of the grass, that is the main reason of why the length min and max are the same because the plugin works on objects with the same amount of faces.
The plugin that we are going to use is djPFXUVs.
